Up the river

let’s go down to the river

not a river
it’s a stream

in and out of these bumpy green fields
really don’t know who owns them

in a child sized valley
down the end of the field
look that’s a meander

buried in brambles
tunnel of branches and leaves
glistening wadable splashable floor

bright splash each step
dark secret crossed branches

splish splash each step
up the river

branch woven sky
bramble woven thorns
damp grassless mud

each splish splash step
up the river

the steep bit down where we get in
the open bit with the high bank
the dark bit with the waterfall

the top where the trees thin out
becomes swampy

ravine meander embankment
flood plain debris

cows come down to drink

each splish step splash
up the river

on our own

each splishy step splash
up the river
